Grooming styles

                                   TOWN AND COUNTRY

At Berkshire Hills we have named two styles of Australian Labradoodle cuts.

The “Town cut™” which is the longer flowing style and the “Country cut™” which is an easier maintenance style. Both cuts are even all over with the tail only slightly longer.

The “TOWN” cut
VioletHere is Violet in the “Town™” cut. This style needs more brushing than the “Country” look to keep it beautiful, clean and flowing.

Violet goes to the groomers every 6 weeks to keep this cut in shape.

For the “Town” style keep the coat between 2-4 inches or longer.

The “COUNTRY” cut

The “Country™” cut (seen on Eva) is what we keep our dogs at Berkshire Hills in most of the time. It is a sportier look. At Berkshire Hills our dogs run around outside everyday and this cut reduces the amount of dirt and snow that they bring into the house. It is also easier to find ticks on them, which is a problem where we live. The “Country” cut is kept between 1-3 inches.

Cadence’s variety box!

Back in the 70’s my mother used to use a condiment called Jane’s crazy mixed up salt.

This is what I think of when I look at Cadence’s new litter of puppies!  A little of everything color wise, chocolate, caramel, white, black and white, tan and white, white and tan….what fun!

They get their spots from daddy, Ocean State Buster and from Berkshire Hills Cadence’s mom, Pearl.

So spicy!!

Molly’s European vacation

One of the things I love to do while curled up by the fireplace as the snow silently piles up outside and the wet dogs are drying out is to think about my next vacation!

I am sure this has crossed many of your minds recently as well and I bet some of you are thinking about taking your dog with you.

Well last year Bonnie and Bob sat in their NYC apartment and thought about the same thing. And decided that they would take their Berkshire Hills dog, Molly, with them.

Destination: Europe!       Duration: Four months!

Bob was so kind to email me photos and stories of their adventures as they travelled. The trip was a success and they are back in NYC now waiting for another BH puppy. I wonder where the four of them will go!?

“Molly has now completed about four months of travel in Germany, Switzerland, Italy and France and will be in the UK for two weeks before we sail home on the Queen Mary 2.  Perhaps the most surprising part of the trip is how many people we have met because of how attracted they are to her. This was particularly true in Italy where we couldn’t go out without people (men as well as women) coming up to her and saying bellissima and bacini.  Molly has actually made our trip even more amazing.”

‘She is a magnate who attracts smiles and conversations with us. We take her to dinner wherever we go and she sleeps under the table, every few minutes someone comes up to us and asks if they could touch her and we have met more Italians and people from all over the world (including one man who lives two blocks from us in Manhattan). She has turned out to be a means to make easy and immediate contact with adoring passersby and with people who miss the dogs they have left behind. Yesterday we were in San Gimignano and three people took pictures of her. Bonnie and I were in Siena a few days ago and, because of Molly’s appeal, we had lengthy conversations with an elderly couple from Chile, a middle aged couple from Salt Lake City and a 20 something couple from Vancouver. And she seems very content to travel in the car.”

Winnie and Pip pups

It was  the puppie’s debut in the playroom today.

All ten of Winnie’s babies at only 4 weeks old embraced the playroom and  slipped into our puppy buddy’s open arms. As usual when they first come out they need lots of cuddles, but before we knew it they were exploring the toys and climbing into our laps.

When Winnie’s puppies crashed and fell into a sweet morning nap, we tucked them back into their beds and brought Pip’s 6 week old puppies out to the playroom.

Puppy buddies

This week at Berkshire Hills began with bringing Pip’s 4 week olds out to the puppy house. After over a month away, our puppy buddies returned to cuddle this next group of sweet little beings.

Pip’s puppies are a real mix of colors and markings this time. Many have white “socks” and white blazes in their chests. One even has a white tipped tail!

Puppy Update-Winnie’s

Winnie’s 10 puppies are two and a half weeks old now.

Eyes and ears are open. (“Oh that’s who’s kissing me all the time!”)

Hovering precariously over their floor on their rubbery legs, some have even made it up and over the whelping box!

OOOH, they are so scrumptious!

woof! woof! woof!

The sweetest little woofs are coming from Pip’s puppy box!

Her little 1 pound puppies are acting like little dogs now; tiny barks, tiny puppy games  and tiny little kisses on my face!

Tiny, tiny, tiny!

Meanwhile across the hallway…10 little redheads lay snuggled in a pile. Is that an eye I see about to open!?

Puppy Update

Pip’s 3 week old pups are looking older and scrambling around little little monkeys. The largest one even got out of the box already…almost time to stretch out in the puppy house!
